Matilda Ruta

I want to draw for children because I want to give them something. I draw what I see and what I dream about. I like pine trees, that’s probably my favorite plant. They draw themselves so nicely, their branches are like strokes through the air. I will never be able to draw as beautifully as a tree grows. That would maybe take a hundred years. But I like to try."

Matilda Ruta, born in 1982, is an artist and illustrator from Stockholm. After her master exam from Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, she has, among other things, worked with children’s books, short stories in comic form, illustration, magazine design, workshops and murals. Matilda’s illustrations for the book Mirja och pojken i det rosa huset (Mirja and the Boy in the Pink House), was selected for the Swedish exhibition at the Book Fair in Bologna in 2013.
